This 14-day wildlife tour of Ghana, begins by visiting Accra, Shai Hills wildlife preserve, the Volta River, waterfalls, markets, the Ashanti Kingdom, beaches, a monkey sanctuary, a hippo sanctuary, Mole National Park, traditional villages, the former slave castle at Elmina, and the rainforest canopy walkway at Kakum National Park. Includes cultural performances and a traditional blessing.
Day 1- Accra Arrivals
Your guide will meet you at the arrivals at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra for a safe transport to your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle where you will refresh and relax in for the next day’s activities. Depending on your time of arrival, you may go through an orientation and a city tour.
In your city tour, you will visit the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, the final resting place of Ghana’s first president. The Independence Square, where the independence of Ghana was declared in March, 1957.
Day 2 – Shai Hills Resource Reserve, Bead Factory
This morning, you will depart on a tour to the Shai Hills Resource Reserve located around 50 km northeast of Accra. Here you will see Baboons, Butterflies, Zebras, Ostrich, Birds, Bat Caves, and cultural remains.
This afternoon will be a tour to a bead factory where you will see processes involved in bead-making. Tonight you will lodge in your comfortable hotel near the Volta River. Overnight: Volta River
Day 3 – Monkey Sanctuary, Wli
You will depart your hotel in the morning for a trip to the Volta Region. Your first stop today will be fun with the habituated mona monkeys at the Tafi Atome monkey sanctuary.
According to residents, approximately 200 years ago, the ancestors of the residents of the Tafi Atome areas are said to have migrated from Assin in the Central Regions of Ghana to the Hohoe District. Overnight at Wli Water Heights
Day 4 – Wli Waterfalls- Tamale
You will leave early for the morning hike through the Agumatsa Wildlife Reserve to West Africa’s tallest waterfalls, the Wli falls. After you exit the reserve, you will begin your journey to Tamale.
The highlands of the Volta region are remote, lush and cooler because of the altitude. The people see fewer visitors, so the interactions are more authentic. You will arrive in Tamale late evening to your hotel and rest after the long drive. Overight: Tamale
Day 5- Tamale, Mole National Park
This morning after breakfast in your hotel in Tamale, one of West Africa’s fastest growing city, you will embark on a city tour at the Tamale Market, the leather factory, and the Central Mosque before journeying on a 2-hour drive to Mole National Park. In entering the park, you will visit the famous Laribanga Mosque.
Finally, you will check-in to your room at the Mole Lodge and join for the evening drive safari, come back and enjoy pool time and make some time to track the sunset from the stunning location from the hotel viewpoint. Overnight: Mole National Park
Day 6- Mole National Park, Mognori Eco-Village, Afternoon Safari
This morning game viewing walk at Mole National Park starts at (6:30 am to 8:30 am) where you will have the chance to see elephants, baboons, buffaloes, warthogs and the over 316 species of birds in the park.
Later today, you will visit the Mognori Eco-Village where you will have a village guided walk and a canoe safari on the Mole River, a cultural performance and come back early enough for the evening safari in Mole National Park. You have a chance to enjoy poolside while viewing the sunset at Mole Lodge after enjoying a performance at Mognori Cultural Village. Overnight: Mole National Park
Day 7 – Kumasi- Kejetia Market
This morning after breakfast, your driver/guide will take you on a long drive from the Northern Region to the Ashanti Region, Kumasi. You will visit the Kejetia Market, the largest open market in West Africa, where people from all over Ghana, Ivory Coast, and other neighboring countries come to buy and sell.
Finally for today, you will settle in your comfortable hotel and rest after a long day of driving. Overnight: Kumasi
Day 8 – Ashanti Craft Villages, Manhyia Palace
This morning after breakfast, you will depart to the Royal King Palace of the Ashanti Kingdom. At the palace, your palace guide will take you on a tour and explain in details the history of the people of the Ashantis.
Also, you will visit craft villages around Kumasi showcasing traditional crafts, kente cloth weaving, Adinkra cloth stamping at Bonwire where you will get the opportunity to make your own prints, wood carving and also visit a healing shrine. Overnight: Kumasi
Day 9 – Bobiri Butterfly Reserve
Drive in the morning to Bobiri Forest Reserve and butterfly sanctuary, the only butterfly sanctuary in West Africa with about 400 species of butterflies and to over 100 native species of trees, some of which are over 300 years old.

Day 10 – Slave Cemetery, Elmina Castle, Posuban Shrine, Ft. San Jago
Depart for the coast in the morning and make a stop at the former slave market and cemetery at Assin Manso where former slaves from the north took their last bath before being shipped to the Americas. In your next stop, you will visit and tour the U.N. World Heritage Site of Elmina Castle, Ghana’s oldest European structure.
Finally for the day, you will explore the Posuban Shrines and see interesting statues and architecture, Ft. San Jago built in 1652 to protect the Elmina Fort from attacks, and a fishing lagoon in central Elmina. You will return to your hotel, have dinner and rest for the day. Overnight: Elmina
Day 11 – Kakum National Park, Hans Cottage Botel, Beach Time
Visit Kakum National Park. At the park, you will take an adventure
crossing West Africa’s only rainforest canopy walkway and a nature tour in the forest where your guide will teach you the economic, cultural, and medicinal values of the plants in the forest. This afternoon will include a tour at the Hans Cottage Botel where you will have the chance to see crocodiles in a pond. After lunch, continue to Cape Coast beach to relax at the beach next to Cape Coast Castle Overnight: Elmina
Day 12 – Beach Time, Kokrobite Beach Village, Culture Performance
Spend some time in the morning at the beach. Finally, you will depart for Kokrobite Beach Village and settle into your beachside accommodation. Food, music, crafts, live band on weekends. Kokrobite special beach celebration with drumming and dancing. Overnight: Kokrobite
Day 13 – Beach Day!
After several days of long drive and walking, you have earned this day on the beach. You have the chance to relax and talk about other interesting activities around the area. Later this afternoon, your guide will take you to a near village to watch how the fishermen catch their fishes. Overnight: Kokrobite
Day 14 – Beach Morning, West Hills Mall, Departure
Today, you will have some time to spend at the beach in the morning and later depart for Accra, stopping along the way to see modern Ghana’s West Hills Mall and other attractions, viewing the fashionable Oxford Street in Osu and have lunch, visit the Makola Market, the largest open-air market in Accra with overflow of people, goods and sounds. Accra’s historic Jamestown, W.E.B. Du Bois Center.
Your final stop is the art market in Accra where you will have the opportunity to buy souvenirs for friends and family. In the evening today, your driver/guide will safely and happily drop you off at the airport 2 hours before your evening flight.
